"The Peter Pan of Pop"

S2E10: Michael Jackson's "HIStory" (Disc 2)

All I want to say is . . .

This week’s episode of Texting, the tenth of Season 2 and the thirtieth overall, is our longest to date. Clocking in at 2 hours and 11 minutes, it consists of a track-by-track analysis of Disc 2 of Michael Jackson’s HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book 1, with commentary provided by an MJ superfan (Tomek) and an unabashed Prince partisan (me). I’m not sure how much new ground we cover in our discussion, but at least we don’t shy away from voicing our opinions on such topics as the fascistic teaser for the album, the controversial lyrics (and the controversial Spike Lee-directed music videos) of “They Don’t Care About Us,” and of course the sexual abuse allegations which are referenced on multiple tracks (and provocatively joked about by Dave Chappelle). If nothing else, we think you will enjoy arguing (or agreeing) with us and telling us in the comments why we’re wrong (or right). Press play and scream all you want!

Tune in next week when our text will be Montaigne’s “To the Reader.”
