The Story of OJ

Texting S3E9: The Life and Crimes of Orenthal James Simpson
Everything to Know About the Infamous Glove in O.J. Simpson's Trial

If it doesn’t fit . . .

Well, you know the apodosis that follows from that protasis, right? Or maybe you don’t. Either way, you’ll definitely want to listen to the marathon chat Tomek and I have on the life and crimes of Orenthal James Simpson, who died earlier this month. After discussing the Juice’s achievements on the football field and his dubious acting career, my co-host and I inevitably turn our attention to “the trial of the century,” sharing our memories and impressions of that seminal cultural event. Press play above to hear the entire conversation. You can also watch the complete pod with slideshow on my YouTube channel (though it appears the NFL has cockblocked me from displaying the thumbnail here):

As always, please like, share, comment, etc. And while you’re at it, maybe you’d be so good as to respond to the question Tomek raised about the defendant’s legal “dream team” near the end of the pod: Was playing the race card dishonourable? (Don’t you love that British orthography?)

Show Notes

  • The pic of the glove up top is a bit misleading insofar as Johnnie Cochran’s catchphrase was actually used in relation to the knit cap. (Yeah, I had forgotten that too.)

  • Thanks again to Brian for suggesting the topic of this episode and to John for recommending the following ESPN documentary:

  • Here’s the link to the Unreported Podcast ep I reference:

  • Nick Cave’s cover of “Stagger Lee” . . . slays:

  • And here’s that tool Piers Morgan trying to moderate a jabberfest featuring Marc Lamont Hill, Alan Douchewitz, and public masturbator Jeffrey Toobin:

  • I would include a link to Chuck Klosterman’s video on “the most valuable player of the 70s” as well, but the NFL is now on my shitlist (see above). I will therefore only share the video of the Hertz commercial which I sang along to during the live broadcast (there were some synching issues due to a delay but I think I still nailed it):

  • Near the end of the pod, I mention the logical fallacy (not phallus) known as the argumentum ad Hitlerum but I probably should have said reductio ad Hitlerum. A distinction without a difference.

  • Norm!

  • JZ on OJ, or the inspiration for the title of this ep:

  • Dave Chappelle reminds us to “man up” when discussing this topic:

  • WTF?! Tip of the hat to friend of show Joe:

  • Those of you who voted for Gaddafi instead of OJ, please know that you are heard and appreciated. We promise to do an episode on the bayoneted Libyan leader’s UN speech very soon. Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding.
