Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?

S3E18: Paul Gauguin's "D'où venons-nous? Que sommes-nous? Où allons-nous?"
undefined

For the antepenultimate episode of season 3 of Texting, Tomek chose as our topic of discussion neither Outkast’s Stankonia, nor the new Kendrick Lamar album, but rather a painting by Paul Gauguin. This suited me perfectly as I was able to shamelessly self-promote my song “Rondo Polynésien,” which was inspired by the Frenchman in permanent exile’s masterpiece D'où venons-nous? Que sommes-nous? Où allons-nous? Press play above to hear the remix of the song, which kicks off the pod, and the wide-ranging conversation which follows. And no, textual deviants, we do not merely confine ourselves to an aesthetic appreciation of the colors and images on the canvas. Rest assured, we also confront head-on the all-important question of whether or not Monsieur Gauguin should be cancelled for his unsavory life in paradise. Can you guess what our respective verdicts were? More importantly, what say you, O juries and judges with your quibbles and grudges?
