Well, hello again, Substack, and apologies for the long delay since my last post!
I won’t bore you with the details of all that I’ve been up to, but I can say that it’s involved intermittent half-assed livestreaming, considerable brooding over the forthcoming audiobook version of Earnest Games, procrastination with regard to an updated edition of Pilgrimizing, the surprising genesis of a new musical project called Gemini Pig Brothers, and of course the immersive biblical research I’ve been conducting in preparation for my infidel translation of the Gospel of Mark. (Did I not mention the latter creative endeavor here before? Well, now I have.)
In any case, I’ve got a bit of housecleaning to do, don’t I? This episode of Texting—Part 1 of the pod’s Pazz & Jop Tournament (blame Robert Christgau for the title, not me)—was livestreamed on YouTube in April (!) and an edited version was uploaded to the same platform in May (!), but I never did post the audio here on Substack. So, without further ado, please press play above to hear Tomek, Craig, Hania, and myself argue in favor of our particular musical prejudices as the competition is whittled down from the Field of 64 to the Elite 8 (yes, the whole thing is based on the NCAA bracket). Tomorrow I’ll post the audio of Part 2. You’ll never guess who the winner is.
Here’s the “raw” livestream (again, as it happens):
And here’s the “cooked” or edited version (with thumbnail by Tomek):
