Although I consider Mulholland Drive to be David Lynch’s masterpiece, Lost Highway has always been my sentimental favorite among all his films. I therefore chose the latter text for this episode honoring the memory of the great American auteur (1946-2025). Joining Tomek B Is Dead and myself for an analysis and appreciation of Lynch’s 1997 noir/horror/comedy is “Crazy” Joe Greenwood of 10TB Hard Drive, “the fifth best film podcast in the world.” Press play above to hear the full conversation, during which we discuss, among other things, the Möbius strip, the Getty family, Scorsese, Bergman, Kurosawa, David Foster Wallace, Siskel & Ebert, Will Sloan, “outsider evil” vs. “malt-shop nostalgia,” Tarantino’s “clean endings,” what makes a film “masturbation-worthy” (not my phrase, so don’t blame me), and why one should be ride or die for Philip Roth, Woody Allen, and Morrissey. The title of this post is taken from one of the many insightful comments made by Crazy Joe during the livestream. Or am I just remembering things my own way, not necessarily the way they happened?
