As promised, here’s the video version of the inaugural episode of season 2 of Texting, which highlights the songs of Christine McVie! Tune in tomorrow for the premiere of the audio version of episode 2, wherein Tomek and I discuss J Dilla’s Donuts!
While you’re here, I’ll share some more Fleetwood Mac songs I discovered (or in some cases re-discovered) while researching S2E1.
From the Peter Green era, I recommend “The Green Manalishi” (mentioned in the pod). It’s a proto-heavy metal track which seems to have inspired some early Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath songs and was later covered by Judas Priest. The mythical creature of the title is apparently a psychedelic version of Robert Johnson’s “hellhound.” Turn it up!
From the Danny Kirwan era, I call your attention to “Dragonfly,” the lyrics of which are based on a poem by the Welsh poet W.H. Davies. If you look closely, you can see Lady McVie singing backups and playing the keys in this video:
From the Bob Welch era, check out “Hypnotized.” It’s a great groove—so great, in fact, that you will feel . . . hypnotized. That’s our songbird providing background vox on this track too. And how about that album cover? They don’t make ’em like they used to, do they?
Until tomorrow, textual deviants!
